After
rallying together in the late 1980’s former rallying colleagues
Dave Maryon
and Ken
Powell have teamed up again
to compete on the World Cup Rally and some other shorter competitions.
Driver Dave explains: “It's been more than ten years since Ken (co-driver
Ken Powell) and I sat in a rallycar. Then the positions were reversed – he
was frightening me as co-driver in his 300+bhp Rover Vitesse – I just see
this as a way to get my own back!”...

Although both Dave and
Ken have had successes in rallying in the past Dave’s recent
competition experience has been involved with the organisers of the
2001 World Cup rally, the Classic Rally Association. “Through
another old rally friend I got involved driving the course car for
the Classic Marathons and the Winter (nee Monte) Challenges.” “Although
interested in the ‘old’ cars I wasn’t really fired
to compete again until Philip Young of the CRA told me about the
plans for the World Cup.” “I decided that this was a
really big challenge and that I wanted to win.” “ When
I was rallying in the late 70’s and early 80’s I always
liked doing well in small engined cars and this rally has a format
of 1400cc engine with standard gearbox and brakes – I know
we can do well.”
Having been to Morocco with the Classic Marathon in 1998, Dave knows
how tough the rally is going to be. “Once I saw how the format
of event was going to be I knew that this rally would need a special
crew to win. I thought of Ken immediately, his calmness under pressure,
common sense and practical abilities make him someone ideal to be
at your side in the car.”
