Introduction
Endurance rallying is the only all-new initiative in British rallying and has seen the clock turned back to the kind of traditional values that made rallying great. Cars are identifiable as showroom cars – no tuning is allowed* - the cheapest car on the event last time cost a few hundred pounds.
The Lombard Rally 2008 is an authentic revival of the kind of rallying last seen when Lombard used to sponsor the RAC Rally, a marriage that lasted for 34 years and established Britain’s premiere event as the jewel in the crown. The unique concept meant there was no advance practice and servicing was limited.

For the revival of the Lombard rallies, Kenny Owen Clerk of the Course and Route Manager, since 2005, digs deep into the history books to come up with the kind of places regularly featured in the original events. For example, the 2006 route was so authentic there was hardly a venue that had not featured on an original Lombard… crews set out from York, drove to Scarborough, then headed up into Scotland and returned to Blackpool for a test that was set out on the promenade where cars first competed back in 1953.

The 2007 event started from the Motor Heritage Museum at Gaydon headed for Silverstone and the Forest of Dean before three gruelling days through the Welsh forests including such famous names as Esgair Dafydd, Hafren and Coed y Brenin before heading south through Abergwesyn and the Elan Valley to finish at the City of Newport.

The rally is supported by motor clubs up and down the land and is only made possible because of their dedication – it takes over 1000 people to make the Lombard Rally happen.

In 2008 the Lombard Rally will start from its traditional home at Harrogate North Yorkshire then heads north following a route akin to that of the 1971 RAC Rally.
